Geboren in 1994, leerde de Belgische violiste Sylvia Huang het vak van haar vader. Later studeerde ze verder aan de Académie des Arts de la Ville in Brussel. Sylvia deed orkestervaring op bij het European Union Youth Orchestra en in september 2012 werd ze tweede violiste bij het Nationaal Orkest van België. Anderhalf jaar later werd ze gepromoveerd tot co-solovioliste. Sinds augustus 2014 is ze eerste violiste bij het Koninklijk Concertgebouworkest.
Kamermuziek is een grote passie: samen met drie andere orkestcollega’s vormt ze het GoYa Quartet Amsterdam. Na het winnen van de prestigieuze Prix de Salon in 2015, uitgereikt door de business club van het Koninklijk Concertgebouworkest, kon het GoYa Quartet Amsterdam opnamen maken van twee live uitvoeringen van alle Brahms en Schumann Strijkkwartetten.
Sylvia won eerste prijzen op de National Musical Competition Belfius Classics in 2004 en de Lions European Musical Competition in 2008. Ze nam deel aan verschillende internationale festivals zoals B-Klassiek Festival van Vlaanderen, Échappées Musicales du Médoc en Festival Musiq’3. In mei 2019 werd ze laureaat van de Koningin Elisabethwedstrijd en kreeg ze de Prix Musiq’3 du Public en de Canvas-Klara Prijs.
Born in 1994, the Belgian violinist Sylvia Huang learned the trade from her father. She continued her studies at the Académie des Arts de la Ville de Bruxelles. Sylvia gained orchestral experience with the European Union Youth Orchestra and in September 2012 she became second violinist with the National Orchestra of Belgium. A year and a half later she was promoted to co-solo violinist. Since August 2014 she has been principal violinist with the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra.
Chamber music is a great passion: together with three other orchestra colleagues, she forms the GoYa Quartet Amsterdam. After winning the prestigious Prix de Salon in 2015, awarded by the business club of the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, the GoYa Quartet Amsterdam was able to record two live performances of all Brahms and Schumann String Quartets.
Sylvie won first prizes at the National Musical Competition Belfius Classics in 2004 and the Lions European Musical Competition in 2008. She has participated in various international festivals such as B-Classical Festival of Flanders, Échappées Musicales du Médoc and Festival Musiq’3. In May 2019 she became a laureate of the Queen Elisabeth Competition and was awarded the Prix Musiq’3 du Public and the Canvas-Klara Prize.
